Maybelline Mineral BB Mousse Review

Maybelline Mineral BB Mousse Review

bbmousse

This new revolutionary product has been advertised heavily all over Asia recently. I immediately wanted to try it out because I was so intrigued with the concept of "light & poreless" skin. They released a pure mineral foundation a while back and I was pretty happy with it's performance. I'm also a fan of the pure mineral concealer so to be honest, I had high hopes for this BB mousse. Afterall, I have never tried or seen a BB cream that applies in a form of mousse. Sounds interesting.

I headed into my local drugstore and literally spent a good 5 minutes inspecting the bottles hoping to find 'shade information' until a sales assistant came by to ask if I needed help. I don't know if this is true or not but she ended up telling me that it only comes in one shade. The BB cream is supposed to adapt to our skin tone. Fair enough...

bbmousse2

Packaging
It comes in a form of a can. As always with spray cans, an disadvantage is of course not being able to see the contents inside. Other than that, nothing much special about the packaging.

Application
I realised that you have to release the nozzle real quick because A LOT of product comes out. Don't be fooled of the mousse texture because you WILL realise that a quick pump is more than enough. I was recommended to apply the product with my hands but I had such a hard time. It didn't apply smooth and it was extremely difficult to blend. It didn't spread evenly across my face because it dries pretty quick. I honestly didn't feel the 'lightness' that was promoted. I was slightly disappointed.

bbmousse3

After several times trying to work the product with my hands, I decided to experiment with makeup brushes and I realised that using a fluffy soft brush works best. This way, it applies evenly and smoother. The mousse dissolves into a thin liquid consistency (kind of like airbrush makeup fluid) and surprisingly worked alright. My pores appeared smaller and my face didn't look caked which was good but it still didn't feel 'light' on the skin. I was pleased about the colour actually adapting to my skin tone too.

An hour or two later, after giving my dog a bath and drying her off - I remember glancing briefly at the mirror and suddenly thinking "HUH? Why do I look so tan?" I thought it was the lighting in the living room so I walked into the bathroom to inspect my face with proper lighting. My face was at least 2 shades darker than the rest of my body. The makeup oxidizes SO MUCH. I couldn't believe how dark my face was and this is supposed to be a BB cream? It's supposed to have SPF 30 so I was surprised with the colour pay out.

To be fair, I really haven't tested it too long but I know it's long enough for me to decide I can't wear this product out anymore.

Pros:
  • Really does minimize appearance of pores
  • Decent oil control
  • Gives my skin a dewy healthy look
  • Decent coverage

  • Cons:
  • Can be difficult to apply. Streaks with fingers. A fluffy brush works best (for me)
  • Oxidizes like there is no tomorrow
  • Doesn't feel that 'light'
  • Too much product is pumped out each time
  • Lacking variety of shades
  • MUST be set with powder
  • If water touches your face, the bb mousse will run!! No joke!!! Face CANNOT get wet.

Conclusion
I think the concept of the product is pretty neat but it's not there yet. It feels like an unfinished product. Would be nice if there's more shades. It's not a bad bad product but I don't think I'll be repurchasing.  I'm just disappointed because it actually applies quite nicely but the oxidizing totally ruins the results. I don't recommend this if you have pale skin but if you are more on the tanned side- this product could work for you I guess. I would give this product 2 out of 5 stars.

Note: As always, this review is just based on my own honest opinions. Remember we are all different so it may work differently for you. I wish I have a comment option so you guys can let me know your thoughts on this product.

what is the difference between serum and moisturizer? Which is better?

what is the difference between serum and moisturizer? Which is better?

a lot of people mistaken a serum as a light moisturiser.
girls talk about only wearing serums for the hot summer weather.
A serum and a moisturiser is designed to work in conjunction with each other, not alone.

Serums tend to have smaller molecules and they are capable of penetrating deeper into the skin. A lot of times, they're much more concentrated too so they absorb into the skin quicker. A moisturiser will help to seal the nutrients inside to prevent moisture from evaporating.............

Why do you get eye serums and eye creams? The same reason. No matter how amazing an eye cream is, it may work only on the surface but an eye serum can work deep within. ....and.....

As for which is better, you just can't compare because they are different products. Not everybody needs to use serum unless you're dealing with wrinkles and discoloration. If I had to only use one product, it would be a moisturiser but personally, they are equally important to me. ....

How to grow long healthy nails

How to grow long healthy nails

How long should your nails be? Well that depends on your preference and lifestyle. I don't need my nails to be crazily long, I just need them to be a decent good length. I have short stumpy fingers so longer nails help to give an illusion that my fingers are longer and leaner.

longnail2

There's a lot of factors that contribute to nail growth and today, I'll share some of my nail growing tips.

Diet
The appearance of your skin, nails and hair can all indicate your health. Whenever I eat lots of junk food, it shows up on my skin through oiliness and pimples. When you don't have enough calcium or vitamin A in your diet, your nails can become brittle and dry. I usually like to add a few spoonfuls of yogurt into my morning smoothies. I also take fish oil gels on a daily basis which not only strengthens my hair and improves my skin texture, but also helps to promote the growth of healthy nails......

Temperature
Apparently nails grow faster during the warmer seasons due to the chemical reaction. I am always amazed how much longer my nails appear after taking hot baths. ..

Condition & massage your nails
well!!! Dip your fingers into a little bowl of olive oil and let your nails soak up for about 5 minutes. Olive oil is rich in vitamins helping to condition nails and also promoting nail growth. Afterwards, use your thumb to gently massage your nail beds. This stimulates blood supply into the nails to keep them strong and healthy.

Don't use nail varnish removers too much
They are incredibly drying on the nails. For me, even with nail polish removers without acetone that claim to condition nails - still dry the heck out of my nails (making them appear yellowy). Before nail polish application, try to apply a base coat (especially if you're going to wear dark shades) to prevent your nails getting stained.

File them correctly
Yes, only file your nails in one direction (instead of back and forth). This prevents them splitting.

Nail strengtheners
In my experience, nail polishes and top coats help my nails 'thicken' up by adding a hard lustrous layer over my nails. It makes them less prone to breakage. Nail strengtheners help too. I can't say this technique is the healthiest option for the nails but it is the most effective way to help me grow long nails easily.

Don't bite your nails
I bit my nails for over twenty years and if I can beat the habit, so can you!.........

Sparkling White Teeth

Sparkling White Teeth

welll!!!!! Baking soda is also known as Sodium bicarbonate. It's actually quite a popular home remedy for teeth whitening and people have been using it to 'whiten their smiles' for many many years. Baking soda can remove stains on the surface of the teeth and it's a popular home treatment because it's affordable and can be easily found in the kitchen.

teeth-whitenine1
hmmmmm...Some people like to mix baking soda with water so it forms a paste. They would then use this like toothpaste and brush their teeth with it as a treatment. My friend personally likes to sprinkle a tiny bit into her ordinary tooth paste and she would brush her teeth normally (about twice a week). Although I have heard very successful reviews on the baking soda remedy, I have to say I haven't tried the remedy myself so I can't tell you my experience on it.

I personally found that eating starfruit has made a wonderful impact on my teeth. It has brightened and whitened my smile effectively without me even trying to. Starfruit is one of my favourite fruits to snack on but if you don't have access to this type of fruit, you can try eating strawberries because they work great too.

Another popular remedy is to gargle vinegar because it not only kills the bacteria and germs in the mouth but it also removes stains.

TOP FOUNDATIONS

TOP FOUNDATIONS

Today I'll be sharing my top 5 drugstore foundations as requested. I know how overwhelming it can be trying to find a good foundation when you're not able to test the products properly. It's even harder because there's nobody to give you guidance either. You just have to do your research and trust your instincts before buying anything. Drugstore makeup can be a hit & miss thing but their foundations are definitely stepping up these days.

Without further adieu, here are my top 5 drugstore foundation picks.

bourjoishealthymix
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation
This is actually my favourite foundation right now. The texture is smooth and creamy and blends like a dream to give a healthy and natural complexion. It's hypoallergenic so it's perfect for sensitive skin beauties out there. Makes my skin look and feel amazing. Has medium coverage but it's definitely buildible. The finish is semi-matte so you can either let it be for radiant skin or set with a bit of powder for a complete matte face. Apparently it's supposed to improve the skin's radiance in 4 weeks time. I love how breathable my skin feels in this foundation. It photographs well because there's no SPF in it (but for Summer, you will need to wear sunscreen under it). I've been complimented quite a few times wearing this foundation. Very impressed with this product. Highly recommend for sure.

maybellinepuremineralMaybelline Pure Liquid Mineral Foundation
I have been a fan of this foundation for quite a while now. The texture feels very hydrating and has great coverage without making the skin look caked on. Makes my skin look very dewy and healthy but I always have to set with powder afterwards. I find this foundation is best applied with fingers (I rub the product between my palms and then press on my skin). The foundation is very smooth and can even double up as a concealer too. A little bit of this foundation goes a long way.

REVLONCOLORSTAY
Revlon Colorstay Foundation
This foundation seems to be a popular drugstore favourite and I can definitely see why. For starters, they have different formulas catered for different skin types so you can either go for the normal/dry skin or oil/combination formula. It gives fantastic coverage and blends beautiful on my skin. Gives a porcelain flawless finish and it's even oil-free which means it doesn't oxidise (change colour over time). You can double up the foundation as a concealer since it's got amazing coverage. Comes in quite a lot of shades and holds up pretty well too. If you're someone looking for high coverage, this foundation will be perfect for you. Only downside is that there is no pump which means application can get messy.

neutrohealthy
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup
This foundation makes the skin look radiant and luminous. It's got a very hydrating formula and so it just makes the skin looks amazing. It's been compared to the NARS Sheer Glow but I can't say they're too similar, however - it does give a beautiful glowy natural finish. If you're someone looking for high coverage, this foundation is not for you. However, it will help to even out the skin tone and fake plump hydrated skin. The hydrating formula makes it perfect for Winter but it's also great for Summer because it's lightweight and holds up well. For me, I always have to set with a little powder afterwards because it can look a little too dewy. A foundation that is true to it's name because it does make the skin look very healthy.

 maxfactor-miracle
Max Factor Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion Foundation
My best friend introduced me to this foundation. To me, it's more of a cream foundation that has a powdery finish rather than a liquid foundation. It's nice because with it, I don't need to apply concealer or powder. It's got high coverage but I would only recommend this foundation for normal/combination skin. If you have dry skin, I'm afraid this product isn't for you (it tends to cake around dry patches which isn't pretty). This product works nicely with a DAMP (very important!!!) sponge because it sheers out the product. The texture is creamy and smooth, very easy to blend out. Has great lasting power and a little amount does a long way. However, cream foundations tend to be less hygienic so you might want to be a bit careful because you will be dipping your sponge in and out.

Some tips in picking drugstore foundations
  • Know your skin type. Everybody is different and what might work for your friend may not work the same for you. For example, if you have dry skin - it might be a good idea to go for the hydrating formulas. If you have oily skin, go for oil-free formulas. If you have sensitive skin, go for hypoallergenic formulas.

  • Do your research. Before you buy anything, you might want to check out what other people think of the product as well. You can check out  makeupalley.com for plenty of product reviews. You should also consider that everybody has different skin types so may also have different requirements and opinions too. Weigh out these factors.

  • When you're at the drugstore, of course it's fine to test the foundation's texture on the back of your hand. However, remember the tone of your hand is different from the tone of your face. The best place to swatch the product is on your jaw line (between your face and neck) for a more accurate colour selection. It's handy to bring a pocket mirror with you or have a friend that's there to help you.

    That's all folks!

Hair Removal Laser

When I was first asked whether I wanted to review the Tria Hair Removal Laser* gun, I was slightly skeptical. I was worried about 1. the pain and 2. whether it was safe or not. I had only ever heard about laser hair removal at the salons so doing it myself, in my own home threw me off a little. After reading a tonne of reviews online, I decided to give it a shot. The Tria is one of only two FDA approved laser hair removal devices, both clinically proven to remove hair permanently
Hair free for upto 6 months? It was something I dreamt of! Having received the device, it actually looked quite friendly. The Tria is designed to travel down to the root of the hair, zapping the hair follicles which eventually will make them weak. I have been using this device for 4 weeks now, here is my experience so far.

Week 1

well...After reading the instructions, I built up the courage to use it. There are 5 settings, the higher you go, the more effective it becomes. I was surprised at how small the actual laser area, surely it can't hurt that much. I began on a mere 2 to test the water. After shaving my underarms (you must shave before you use it) I turned on the device, pressed it against my underarm and began firing. I was surprised at how bearable it was, so much I decided to whack it up to level 4. It took around 15-20mins to cover the entire area of my underarm, I did it whilst watching TV, perfect distraction. Warning: You must concentrate and remember which area's you have shot. It is not ideal to go over the same area again.
The pain wasn't what I had imagined. I normally epilate my underarms (which kills) so maybe I have grown used to the pain. I can only describe it as a warm pinch (maybe a pinch with nails).

Week 2

hmm so, I do exactly the same again. Shave, turn on the laser and start firing. I haven't noticed much difference in hair growth yet, but it does mention it takes up to 6 weeks to see full results. This time, I use level 5. I am slightly quicker this time because I am less hesitant.

Week 3

Again, same routine. I noticed a slight difference, not major but hair seems to be growing back at a slower rate, not sure if it's my mentality though.

Week 4

This week, I did the exact same thing. I noticed a slight change in my underarm hair. Instead of a usual weeks worth of growth, I have small stubble instead, hardly noticeable. I am really looking forward to week 6.

Time: The Tria is pretty time consuming. I only have time to do my Underarms. I can imagine it taking over an hour to do my legs.

Price: The Tria is currently selling for £375 which sounds rather steep to begin with, until you see the salon price tags. Being able to do this in the comfort of your own home is really a bonus. When you think about the results and take the salon price tags into consideration, it actually works out to be a bargain!

Results: Obviously I haven't finished my course of 6 weeks yet but so far so good. Really looking forward to week 6 in which I shall be giving you all an update. The thought of being hair free for 6 months is exhilarating!
